Bringing Back Prayer Into My Life
In December, just before Christmas, I volunteered with my coworkers at a Christian charity in The Bronx, helping distribute toys to families in need.
We arrived early in the morning and spent time prepping—laying out the toys and food. Before the event began, the lead organizer gathered us together, walked us through the logistics, and asked if we could take a moment to bow our heads in prayer.
She thanked God for the day, for the beautiful toys and food, and asked for His blessings over the event.
Something about it made me emotional. It reminded me of my childhood—the people at church who prayed for us, and a time when faith was a bigger part of my life.
Praying before meals. Praying before a workday. Praying before an OTWC event.
That ritual of gratitude—of seeking protection and blessings—is beautiful. While I no longer identify with any one religion, regular prayer is something I want to bring back into my life.
